She started the presentation by talking about where pharmacists work (e.g. pharmacies, factories, schools) and what their role in society is (why and when we need medicine, do animals need medicine too). She showed the children different medicines – syrup, tablets, capsules and ointments.

The children quickly joined in the conversation and told which medicines they had at home, when they put cream on, which flavours of syrup they liked, etc.

The researcher introduced them to the symbol of pharmacy (a snake wrapping around a chalice), which they see before entering pharmacies. She also talked to the children about the fact that, like humans, animals also get sick and are given similar medicines.

She then went on to make a pampering cream, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The cream also contained animal ingredients (lanolin, which is extracted from sheep’s wool). Each child filled their cream into a jar and labelled it with an animal sticker of their choice. At the end, they watched a series of short films about how the pills are made in a pharmaceutical factory.

At the end, the children were very happy to take the strawberry-scented creams home. They participated well in the workshop, interacted with the researcher and were delighted at the end of the workshop.
