The workshop gave students an insight into the whole process of subtitle translation. They started by familiarising themselves with video content and spoken word transcription, and then we discussed the possible translation pitfalls and solutions available.
The students were also introduced to the software used for subtitling and some of the limitations that this type of translation entails – reading speed, length of each subtitle line, minimum duration, etc.
At the end of the session, a spontaneous discussion developed on the future of the translation profession and the technological possibilities offered by artificial intelligence.
