The titles of the workshops were:
– Touch Me! Getting to Know Animals in an Urban Environment
– Animal Animal Tracks / EuroBioBlitz
– Observation of Moths.
In the first workshop, pupils learned about some of the species of animals that coexist with us in urban environments. They learnt about cockroaches, rats, red-necked turtles, toads and butterflies.
After learning about the lifestyles of the animals presented, the second workshop included a quick inventory of the organisms around the school using the iNaturalist app, thus joining the EuroBioBlitz project. The app allows participants to record the organisms they have photographed with their mobile phones.
The last workshop started as darkness fell. Researchers set up so-called light traps outside (fine mesh stretched over specially adapted light bodies). Night butterflies perched on these traps and could be observed.
