These are:
– Every Species Needs a Name – Scopoli, a Pioneer of Taxonomy in Slovenia,
– New Discoveries about the Human Fish to the Benefit of Humans and the Olm.
At the workshop on Scopoli, the pupils were first introduced to the importance of describing and naming species and the importance of exploring the diversity of life. This was followed by field work on collecting different plant species, identifying them using stereomicroscopes and making bivalve identification keys. The pupils also discussed with the researchers the different technical definitions of species.
In the workshop on human fish and amphibians, students learned about animal biology, genetic research, endangered species and their distribution through lectures and a 3D model of a human fish. In this workshop, the researchers also included a live amphibian that the pupils found around the camp (Bombina variegata).
The workshops were held at the Marindol Scout Centre – the Scout Centre of the Kranj Scout Association in the Bela krajina region. All 47 students were involved in both workshops.
