The presentation started with a talk about where pharmacists work and what their role is. They presented different medicines – syrup, tablets, drops, ointments – and the children told which ones they had taken.
They talked about how they never take medicines themselves and that they can also get medicines for their pets from the pharmacy.
The children then started to make a nourishing cream which also contained animal ingredients (lanolin, which is extracted from sheep’s wool). Each child filled their own pot with the cream and labelled it with an animal sticker of their choice.
In the days that followed, several parents commented on how excited their children were when they brought home the cream they had made themselves. The children gave the researchers a booklet with their drawings, which they entitled Pharmacist’s Assistants.
