Nina Petek approached this type of presentation of the Buddhist tradition in the context of the European Researchers’ Night. The project included an exhibition of illustrations from a forthcoming comic book based on selected animal adventures from Djataka by Ciril Horjak, an academic painter, illustrator, cartoonist and comic artist. The illustrations of the selected animals from Djataka are the work of Ljiljana Marković (Faculty of Design, Ljubljana).
This activity for students connects animal storytelling with the illustration of the multilayered symbolic meanings of individual animals in Buddhism and the illumination of the Buddhist truths they convey. The activity also introduces comics as a unique medium for dynamic storytelling in word and image. It addresses students in a fun and picturesque yet meaningful way, and also commemorates the 2500th anniversary of the death of Siddhartha Guutama Buddha.
The workshop is suitable for upper primary and secondary schools.
