Minamikat

Pšenica Kovačič has a quite unique calling. She is a cat counsellor – perhaps the only one and definitely one of the most qualified in Slovenia. Between 10 June and 27 July, the Faculty of Arts foyer will exhibit her freehand drawings, which are A4-sized, drawn with fineliners, felt-tip pens and Indian ink on paper and show cats in their usual activities in comic-book style.

Pšenica Kovačič first took up painting, but then her life and her love of animals found her a different calling. She continues to follow this calling, aiming to help as many animals (especially cats) as possible have a quality and healthy life.

At the same time, cats are the focus of her artistic creations. Thus, the cats she depicts are much more than the fusion of her excellent artistic proficiency and love of cute animals. There is a keen detection of their visual features, behaviours and movements. Underpinning all this, there is her familiarity with their personality traits, psychological states and in-depth exploration of human-animal and animal-human relations.

The author’s works on display also serve as preparation for her art doctoral studies, which she intends to undertake in 2023 to explore the interpretation of cat depictions in art and pop culture.
