Images of Animals in Language and Culture

This workshop gives students an insight into the whole process of subtitle translation.

They start by familiarising themselves with the video content and the transcription of the spoken word, and then discuss with researchers from the Faculty of Arts the possible translation pitfalls and solutions available. The students also learn about the software used for subtitling and some of the limitations that this type of translation entails – reading speed, length of each subtitle line, minimum duration, etc. Finally, a discussion develops on the future of the translation profession and the technological possibilities offered by artificial intelligence.

 

The workshop is suitable for upper primary and secondary school classes.
