Two Birds with One Stone: Slovenian-Slovak Night

This year’s edition of the Slovenian-Slovak Night took place in the form of workshops for primary and secondary school students, who learned about specific areas of linguistics and literary studies in connection with the animal world.

In the morning programme, which started at 8 am, researchers first introduced primary school, secondary school and university students to the Slovanska Library and its rare books and other publications (newspapers, manuscripts etc.).

 

This was followed by a workshop with newspaper materials (Kmetijske in rokodelske novice (Agricultural and Artisan News), Slovenec (The Slovenian) etc.) and a workshop on searching for materials in COBISS. After a break, there was a lexicology workshop (working with dictionaries) and a linguistics workshop (Slovenian and Slovak phraseology).

– Linguistics Workshop: Online Dictionaries and the Franček Portal (Špela Petric Žižić, Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU)),

– Phraseological Workshop: Slovenian and Slovak Paremiology (Matej Meterc, ZRC SAZU).

 

The central part of the afternoon programme, which started at 2 pm, was a linguistic/literary conference with international participants, followed by a discussion.

– Špela Sevšek Šramel, PhD: Literary Depictions of Exotic Animals (From Travelogues to Young Adult Literature),

– Svetlana Kmecová, PhD: The Supernatural in the Animal World.

 

Slovak-Slovenian friends and enthusiasts, especially primary school, secondary school and university students were warmly welcomed.
