ANIMAL-HUMAN-MACHINE II: The Nest

The science experiment ANIMAL-HUMAN-MACHINE – the question of the future of the school articulated the questions of the main displacements and changes in the human relationship to animals and machines in an interweaving of two levels: with the spoken word, which is one of the most common manifestations of scientific knowledge, and by highlighting the physical presence of speech as breath, voice and movement in space, which are characteristic of performance art practice.

With Barbara Kapelj’s installation The Nest, which will be on display on September 29, 2023 in the atrium of the Ljubljana Town Hall at Mestni trg Square, as part of the European Researchers’ Night, we continue with the human placement between animals and machines, and this time we are looking for answers with the help of visual art.

“We have created a narcissistic society that nurtures and breeds artificial intelligence in its own nest, and now we look at our own reflection in horror, at an image that is becoming elusive: we stare in despair at the reflection of our own vanity.”

Author of The Nest installation: Barbara Kapelj
