The public discussion will explore how automated decision-making by devices we use in our daily lives — from music streaming to automatic heating of homes — influences our consideration of incorporating ethics into the design of software solutions and the handling of artificial intelligence tools in our daily lives. The discussion will cover some of the advantages and obstacles associated with using accessible online data, particularly the Orange software tool developed by the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana. We will also touch on the methodological challenges that accompany research into ethics and values in the domain of artificial intelligence, as well as trends in this area.
The public talk is also taking place within the framework of the research project Reimagining Public Values and Algorithmic Futures led by Minna Ruckenstein from the University of Helsinki.
