This workshop will present in detail how sequencers\u00a0\u2013 devices that enable you to read genetic code\u00a0\u2013 work. Under the guidance of experts, attendees will explore which skills are key to understanding such code and what role it plays in modern science and medicine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will not shy away from important ethical questions that emerge with increasing knowledge of an individual\u2019s genome. How should sensitive data be protected? What are the pitfalls of genetic profiling and who can access this information? These are only some of the questions we will face.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to theory, the workshop will present practical challenges. The attendees will have a crack at pipetting and take a closer look at chips where the sequencing process takes place. The workshop is suitable for primary and secondary school students as well as any other inquisitive explorers who wish to take a peek at the recesses of the human genome.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We will also present major European projects that are shaping the future of genomics. You will be familiarised with the <em>European Genomic Data Infrastructure<\/em> project, the objective of which is to establish a safe and sustainable infrastructure to access genomic data across Europe. The project is derived from the European initiative <em>Beyond 1 Million Genomes<\/em> <em>(B1MG)<\/em>, which brings together scientists and experts with the vision of a single European environment for high-quality genomic data.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will also highlight the upcoming <em>Genome of Europe<\/em> project, which is starting in the autumn of 2024.
