{"id":6002,"date":"2023-03-14T13:31:33","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T12:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/humanistika.si\/?post_type=dogodki&#038;p=6002"},"modified":"2023-07-12T14:23:33","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T12:23:33","slug":"fairy-tales-and-safeguarding-from-child-abuse","status":"publish","type":"dogodki","link":"https:\/\/humanistika.si\/en\/dogodki\/fairy-tales-and-safeguarding-from-child-abuse\/","title":{"rendered":"Fairy Tales and Safeguarding from Child Abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<style type=\"text\/css\">\n    #odstavek-block_64ae9585bdccf {\n        \/* Add styles that use ACF values here *\/\n    }\n<\/style>\n\n<div id=\"odstavek-block_64ae9585bdccf\" class=\"block-odstavek\">\n    <p><p>During the Academic Day, which took place on 22 June 2023, Milena Mileva Bla\u017ei\u0107 delivered a lecture entitled <em>How fairy tales can become an instrument to reach out children and raise awareness on the protection from abuse among them<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Education, and also an associate of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dovolj-je.si\/novice\/\">Dovolj.je <\/a>Institute, she <a href=\"https:\/\/dovolj-je.si\/pripevek-prof-dr-milene-mileve-blazic-na-mednarodni-konferenci-v-rimu\/\">presented<\/a> the difference between problem (being on the side of the children) and problematic (being on the side of the perpetrator) fairy tales.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As an example, she cited the Grimm brothers&#8217; fairy tale <em>The Children of Hamelin<\/em> (1816), one of the few fairy tales that could possibly be about the so-called Children&#8217;s Crusade of 1284, the medieval plague (hence the motif of rats and the magic squeak) or child abuse.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The theme is extremely topical, as it was also addressed by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in <em>Faust <\/em>and Bertold Brecht in <em>The Children&#8217;s Crusade<\/em> (1939, in connection with the Holocaust), and has been set to music by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6BvogaUK0o8\">Jani Kova\u010di\u010d<\/a> (2020), among others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Milena Mileva Bla\u017ei\u0107 also presented Anton Martin Slom\u0161ek&#8217;s fairy tale <em>The Old Fox and the Young Hen<\/em> (1866) and the figure of the wolf in the works of Charles Perrault (1797) and the Grimm brothers (1857).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a case study, she applied Slavoj \u017di\u017eek&#8217;s theory <em>The Seven Veils of Phantasms<\/em> from his book <em>The Plague of Phantasms <\/em>(1995, 2007) to Svetlana Makarovi\u010d&#8217;s picture book <em>The Red Apple<\/em> (2008), illustrated by Kaja Kosma\u010d \u2013 a modern variant of the fairy tale <em>Little Red Riding Hood<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the author presented a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/viewer?hl=en&amp;mid=1wS7x9aqenEuXHKQcJ3pSB8mUohPnDeRs&amp;ll=44.35025992955748%2C16.934040000000017&amp;z=5\">mapping<\/a> of the fairy tale <em>The Children of Hamelin<\/em> from 1284 and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/viewer?mid=1Gr25dmUkG1zrjSnkWLeE2Emq13HO1boq&amp;ll=26.100127964072353%2C-8.375005500000015&amp;z=3\">mapping<\/a> of the fairy tale type <em>Little Red Riding Hood<\/em>.
